Summer Camp w/ Theme Park

Friday 18th of November 2011

Ever since we first saw Summer Camp at LOTF 2010 we knew they were something a little bit special.  And after packing out tents at festivals the length and breadth of the UK this summer we decided it about time that we brought them to Canterburys best live music venue on their UK headline Tour.  With support coming from fantastic new London group Theme Park, this promises to be a show you will not want to miss.

London based Summer Camp now create the kind of utterly mesmeric, sepia-toned dream pop which seems predestined to form the perfect soundtrack to first kisses and adolescent crushes; romance and yearning. The melancholic “Ghost Train”, for instance, sounds not unlike girl groups from the 60’s wrapped in a warm blanket of lo-fi gauze and dusted lightly with pure pop sugar.

Elizabeth Sankey and Jeremy Warmsley started Summer Camp almost by accident one rainy weekend, the pair recorded a cover of the Flamingo’s I’ve Only Got Eyes for You and uploaded it to a secretive myspace page. The reaction was instantaneous and blogs were in touch within half an hour of uploading. Hipster US blog Gorilla Vs Bear lead the charge and posted the cover, triggering worldwide ripples of excitement and hype around the duo. When posting their first own song online, the Guardian were quick to announce “Summer Camp are going to be a big deal over the next few months” and they were not wrong.
